Non-Steading Holiday Sampler! #FreebieFriday

Do you dislike mason jars?

Do you dread being dragged from bed at dawn on weekends to help garden?

Do you love your friends but hate hearing about their hobbies?

Do you prefer distractions that are streaming?

You may be a Non-Steader...

To help you find out, here's an excerpt from my book, Non-Steading! It's free right now, today only! #FreebieFriday

Sample of Chapter 8 - Non-Steading at the Holidays

Halloween/All Souls' Day

Beyond even Christmas and Easter, this is probably the largest homesteader holiday, if only because it allows them to showcase all of their tips and tricks in a practical setting where it is hard to criticize. If the old November holiday was created for homesteaders, then this was one is almost certainly created by them every year.

Do you want to bob for apples? There is a homesteader in your community that has been restoring old oak barrels for the last eleven months for just that purpose and he cannot wait to tell you about it. Did you want to dress up as something? There is a contingent of PinThings people who have done nothing for the last 90 days but look up costume ideas and how-to infographics.

If you were hoping for a quick jaunt out to trick or treat with your kids, abandon all hope ye who exit your houses. This is the one holiday that isn’t tied to meeting up with some part of your family, so I would suggest Non-Steaders dress up, make one trip to the grocery store, together, in costume, purchase candy you actually want now that it’s on clearance and then go home and watch horror movies. These scary images will help distract you from the homesteaders as they celebrate their favorite holiday. On All Souls' Day, and even into Day of the Dead, depending on where you live, they may persist. If possible, just hibernate until it’s all over.

Original Halloween Art 2015

I have serious adoration for the artist who does my book covers.

I'm so pleased to announce that the art has found a new home! @QuietQuitter can now be found at Ello!

For Halloween this year, there are four new original art pieces which I fell in love with. It's all great and super dark and scary. I swear I'm going to have to write a horror story just to use this last one, The Devil's Tree, as the cover art. I call dibs!

This Day in Cats: #Caturday Issue Three 10.10.15

A message from our furry friends.
It's October, and we are doing the whole #Horror #Scary #Caturday theme.

I really wanted to find scary pictures of kitties for this week, but I have to be honest. I could not search for that.

I tried one day, and you do not want to find out what happens when you put "scary horror cat pics" into a search engine. It's like the worst of humanity condensed into an internet page. Enter Plan B. I could try to put my kitties into scary backgrounds, but it turns out I'm really terrible with any sort of photo-editing, software, picture-y things. Who knew? So that idea was out. Luckily, I came up with a Plan C! You know, for Cats.

I give you my Top 10 List of Horror Movies Featuring Cats!
(Accompanied by pictures of course, this is #Caturday!)

10. Pet Sematary (1989)

This Day in Cats: #Caturday Issue Two 10.3.2015

Hey there!
Welcome to October and our selection of scary kitties! This month it was suggested by @SouthernBelleGaming that we do evil, scary, horror cats for the Halloween spirit and I agree.

In honor of our black cats I will not post any pictures
which depict our darker furry friends as negative.
They get enough bad press as it is.

This week's theme is "Cats are Behind You!"

Seasonal Gourds

You have got to be kidding me. Et tu, Google?

Is this a thing? I feel like it's a thing. As a committed Non-Steader, I find Fall a trying time. As in, people are constantly trying my patience with things like this.

No. No, I am not going to put up a "Seasonal Display". I got roped into making a "Fall Wreath" a few weeks ago, and now we ARE NOT EVEN GOING TO USE IT.
Because reasons?

Apparently, it's not "pretty" enough or it isn't "sending the right message". It's fall. The wreath is orange. Just out of curiosity, WHAT MESSAGE ARE YOU TRYING TO SEND?!

I don't like pumpkin spice flavored anything and no I don't want to go pumpkin picking. This is barbaric. I will get a pumpkin at WalMart if I want a damn pumpkin, just like ANY NORMAL PERSON WOULD!

Decorative gourds. Dollar Tree has gourds, in case you needed some. I noticed we're already popping up with the Halloween candy and decorations in some places... I'm looking at you K-mart! It's not even October yet.

You know what's insidious? We all know to watch out for the pumpkin flavorings, so this year they got smart... they got devious. We were all prepared for Pumpkin Spice so they flanked us. They took their seasonal-gourd-autumnal-pumpkin-costuming up a notch. They went stealth and introduced this:

Candy Corn Flavored Everything
